On June 25, Tupelo Police responded to a report of a vehicle shooting near the South Thomas Street exit on Highway 6.
The victim reported traveling westbound on Highway 6 when a white Dodge Challenger began to pass in the left lane.
As the vehicle passed, a man leaned out of the passenger side window and fired two shots, striking the front driver’s side tire of the victim’s car.
About an hour later, a Tupelo Police officer noticed a vehicle matching the suspect’s description committing a traffic offense on West Jackson Street. The officer stopped the car, driven by 26-year-old Keshon Heard, of Tupelo. During a search, narcotics and a firearm were discovered. Heard was initially arrested for traffic violations and misdemeanor possession of narcotics.
Following further investigation, Heard was charged on June 27, with one count of Shooting into a Motor Vehicle. Tupelo Municipal Court Judge Allen ordered Heard to be held on a $50,000 bond.
The investigation is ongoing, and additional arrests may follow. The victim and Heard were acquaintances, and the shooting occurred after a previous altercation. The charge will be presented to the Lee County Grand Jury.
