On June 26, Prentiss County Deputies and Narcotics Agents, searching for an individual who failed to appear for sentencing in Circuit Court, conducted a traffic stop that led to a significant drug arrest.

North Mississippi Narcotics Agent Grady Smith noticed a vehicle arriving at the suspect’s residence and leaving shortly after.

Agent Smith initiated a traffic stop on the vehicle, which was occupied by two individuals.

During the stop, Deputy Doug Rakestraw detected the odor of marijuana emanating from the front seat passenger, who admitted to chewing up a blunt before leaving the residence.

The passenger, identified as 46-year-old Jamie Sweets Bishop from New Site, was arrested.

Upon arrival at the Prentiss County Jail, Corrections Officer Jamie Rinehart discovered Bishop in possession of methamphetamine within the correctional facility.

Agent Grady Smith will present the case to the next Grand Jury. Prentiss County Justice Court Judge Ray Hall set Bishop’s bond at $5,000. The Prentiss County Sheriff’s Department continues to emphasize the importance of community cooperation in their efforts to maintain public safety.
