Sixteen-year-old LaKendric Cortez Francis, of Canton, was the victim of a fatal shooting on Saturday as he drove down the interstate in Ridgeland.

Two other teens are in custody in the fatal shooting. Marcus Luckett, 15, is charged with murder and Kevin Harris, 16, is charged with accessory after the fact to murder.

Ridgeland Police Commander Brian Myers said Luckett and Harris, both of Canton, drove up beside Francis and his passenger and opened fire around 1:47 p.m. after some kind of fight in Canton. The suspect vehicle has been recovered.

The incident was reported by some media initially as a “road rage” incident, but Myers said that was not the case.

The Ridgeland PD Criminal Investigations Division now has the case, and are working to bring all parties involved to justice, according to a release.

RPD issued special thanks to the Madison Police Department, Madison County Sheriff’s Office, Canton Police Department and Jackson Police Department, and the US Marshals Fugitive Task Force for their assistance in the investigation.
