According to WTVA, the body of 18-year-old Abria Harris was discovered near the River Walk in Columbus on Tuesday evening, according to the Columbus Police Department.
Officers responded to the scene on Moores Creek Road around 6:09 p.m. after receiving a report of a gunshot victim.
Harris was found with a single gunshot wound to her head and was pronounced dead at the scene by Lowndes County Coroner Greg Merchant.
Initially, a 911 call reported the shooting as accidental, with a man claiming that Harris had accidentally shot herself while a friend was playing with a gun. However, the investigation soon turned into a homicide case.
Harris’s ex-boyfriend, 20-year-old Dietrix Cunningham, has been charged with her murder. He is currently being held at the Lowndes County Detention Center, awaiting his initial court appearance.
