The teenage girl who was allegedly shot while trying to rob a popcorn store will be charged as an adult, officials said.
The incident occurred at Northpark Mall in Ridgeland on Saturday. Za’Lill D’Chelle Patterson, 16, of Jackson, was shot around 5:20 p.m. when she allegedly pulled a gun on the store owner. Myers said the owner shot Patterson in the leg, and that it appears to be in self defense.
Myers said Patterson has been booked into the Madison County Detention Center on a charge of aggravated assault with a weapon. She will be charged as an adult.
The store owner has reportedly cooperated with the investigation. A grand jury will hear his case, which is routine in self-defense shootings.
