Suspects in shootings of two Canton men charged as adults, denied bond

Ray, Mitchell, and McCullough were all denied bond on Thursday after shootings in Canton

Three suspects arrested by police in a string of shootings in Canton Tuesday were given no bond before a Madison County judge on Thursday.

Sheriff Randy Tucker said Alphonso Ray, 20; Jamarion Mitchell, 17; and Gaddis McCullough, 14, are all from Yazoo City. Today in court, their charges were made public as they are all being charged as adults.

Just after lunch Tuesday, Jamal Porter was killed on King Ranch Road. Porter was pronounced dead on the scene. Canton put out the vehicle description that they were looking for, some narcotics agents with the Madison County Sheriff’s Department saw a vehicle fitting the description at a residence and set up to watch it. While they were in position, a separate vehicle pulled up with four men inside, and they allegedly proceded to shoot the home with ARs and SKSs, according to Sheriff Randy Tucker.

The deputies approached the alleged shooters and when they ran, the pursuit went on to Peace Street, where the vehicle wrecked and Ray, Mitchell, and McCullough were taken into custody.

Police are still looking for 19-year-old Jamarcus Taylor, who escaped during the chase.

Two more people had been shot at the home on Canal Street. Police say they may be the suspects in the King Ranch Road shooting. One of them was shot in the groin and the other was shot in the leg. They’re both at the University of Mississippi Medical Center in critical condition, according to Police Chief Otha Brown.

The three are being held at the Madison County jail. The charges are as follows.
