On Saturday, June 20, the Jones County Sheriff’s Department (JCSD) collaborated with the Mississippi Department of Wildlife, Fisheries, and Parks (MDWF&P) to arrest 52-year-old Eric Smith, a suspected methamphetamine dealer.

The arrest happened on Masonite Lake Road in the Myrick community following a trespassing complaint handled by an MDWF&P Game Warden.

Smith was found in possession of approximately 101 grams of methamphetamine and charged with Trafficking a Controlled Substance.

Smith is currently held in the Jones County Adult Detention Facility, awaiting his initial appearance in Jones County Justice Court.

“This arrest is the result of teamwork between MDWF&P and JCSD and removes a suspected illegal narcotics dealer off the streets,” said Jones County Sheriff Joe Berlin. Sheriff Berlin also emphasized the ongoing efforts of the narcotics division and encouraged the public to report any suspected illegal narcotics activity to the JCSD at 601-425-3147 or Jones County Crime Stoppers at 601-428-7867.
