The overnight search for Stephen Shane “Cornbread” Poole took several turns and a lot of interagency cooperation before Poole was captured. Poole was wanted on a Aggravated Assault charge involving the shooting of William Parker and was thought to be armed and potentially dangerous.

The Forrest County Sheriff’s Office received information on Poole’s location at a residence on Oilwell Road in Ovett and quickly relayed that information to the Jones County Sheriff’s Department.

JCSD deputies Sergeant Derick Knight and K9 Oblix, Deputy Xavier Thigpen, Deputy Harrison Tew, and Deputy Jared Hutto proceeded to the residence on Oilwell Road barely missing Poole.

Poole was allegedly driven away from the Oilwell Road residence by Willie “Peewee” Carter and dropped off on Job R Lane at the camper trailer of Poole’s girlfriend Tyrae Cooley who JCSD arrested on December 8, 2022, for Hindering Prosecution Or Apprehension in relation to Poole’s run from the law.

Forrest County deputies later effected a traffic stop on Willie “Peewee” Carter’s vehicle on Macedonia Road and obtained information on where Poole was dropped off on Job R Lane.

JCSD deputies and a FCSO deputy went to Job R Lane and located Poole hiding in a camper trailer. Poole refused to surrender and come out of the camper trailer. JCSD K-9 Oblix was deployed inside the camper trailer at which time Poole surrendered after a confrontation with K9 Oblix. Stephen Shane “Cornbread” Poole was arrested and charged with Aggravated Assault in the shooting of William Parker on Saturday, December 3, 2022.

“We’ve said it time and time again,” says Jones County Sheriff Joe Berlin. “Run all you want, you are just gonna go to jail tired.”

Berlin concludes, “We greatly appreciate the assistance of Forrest County Sheriff Charlie Sims and FCSO deputies in providing critical information and assistance in effecting the arrest of Stephen Shane “Cornbread” Poole.”

Both Poole and Carter will have their initial appearance in Jones County Justice Court at 1:00pm today.
