The first week of school can be hectic for everyone, and for Batesville Police Department it was no different.

On Friday, BPD has officers who were out sick, some dealing with family issues, and an extremely high call volume, according to their Facebook page.

“But at the end of the day, the job still has to be done,” the post reads.

Attached to the post is a photo of Batesville Police Chief Dennis Darby directing school traffic.

“BPD has always been and continues to be blessed with an administration who is willing to get out and help wherever needed,” the post states. “Most people forget, but our admin staff started out as officers like everyone else.

“They may have a desk they work at most days, but they have always been quick to jump up and help patrol out when they are in need. ”

Thank you, Chief Darby, for Stepping Up to Serve!
