STEPPING UP TO SERVE: 9-Year-Old Gives Up Birthday Gifts To Collect Supplies For Local Animal Shelter

Our Stepping Up To Serve story features a young girl who decided to give back to a local animal shelter.

9-year-old Adyson decided to ask for gifts for the animals at Community Animal Rescue and Adoption (CARA) in Jackson, instead of gifts for herself.

The shelter posted her photo on Facebook with all of the gifts she brought in for the shelter’s cats and dogs.

What a selfless way to spend your special day! We need more people in the world like Adyson.

The shelter said,

“Some days you just need that little bit of extra bright sunshine, and Adyson sure brought it to us! We hope she really knows and understands how incredibly much this means to us and our babies! In lieu of presents for herself, she asked for presents for the shelter animals. Talk about a heart of gold!”

Adyson brought in toys for the cats and dogs, toys, stuffed animals, as well as cat food and dog food.

CARA said,

“We cannot thank you enough for thinking about our sweet babies on your most special day of the year. We are so glad we got to meet you and that you got to spend some time with some of our babies! Honestly not sure who enjoyed your visit the most! Thank you so very much, sweet birthday girl!!”

Her gifts encouraged the local no-kill shelter that houses dogs and cats that are discarded in the community.
