The Yalobusha County Sheriff’s Department is warning of a scam in which the caller pretends to be a deputy.

A post on their Facebook page says scammers are calling people, saying they are with the Yalobusha County Sheriff’s Department.

The scammer then claims to have an arrest warrant on the person called, and demands money on a Green Dot card to prevent arrest.

“THIS WILL NEVER LEGITIMATELY HAPPEN,” the Facebook page reads. “We will never ask for money, as all money and fines go through the COURT SYSTEM, not Sheriff’s Departments.”

The Sheriff’s Department is advising that if you receive such a call, just hang up. Do not give the caller any information.
