A 61-year-old man is dead after being struck by a car in Vicksburg, according to the Vicksburg Daily News.

The man was walking on North Washington Street around 8:30 a.m. when he was hit by the vehicle, the site reports. He was reportedly killed on impact.

The driver was allegedly headed home from work and fell asleep behind the wheel. Authorities told the VDN that the vehicle is believed to have veered to the left, crossed the centerline, traveled into the southbound lanes and then onto the shoulder where it made contact with the pedestrian.

So far the victim has not been identified.
