One Person Dead After Head-On Collision In Rankin County

On Friday January 13, at approximately 7:20 p.m., the Rankin County Sheriff’s Department was called to a head-on collision with serious injuries.
The wreck happened on Greenfield Road near the intersection of Highway 468 near Whitfield.
Rankin County Deputies, Rankin EOC, Pafford Ambulance and Aircare all responded to the scene of the crash.
When emergency personnel arrived, they found that a Toyota Passenger Vehicle and a Mercedes Benz SUV had collided causing heavy damage to both vehicles.
The male driver of the Toyota was seriously injured.
Medics from the fire departments, Pafford and Aircare immediately began treating the driver. Despite their best efforts to treat the driver, he died while being transported to UMC on the Aircare Helicopter.
The driver and passengers of the Mercedes received non-life-threatening injuries and were transported to a local hospital.
Rankin County Coroner David Ruth responded to UMC where he recovered the deceased’s body.
Greenfield Road was shut down for over 2 hours due to the accident and the reconstruction investigation.
The accident is currently under investigation by the Rankin County Sheriff’s with assistance from the Flowood Police Departments Accident Reconstruction Team.
