ORIGINAL STORY:

One person is in custody, two are at large after a chase through several cities in Mississippi Thursday night.

According to Captain Kevin Newman, at 5:17 p.m. Thursday evening, Madison police received a report of felony shoplifting that just happened at Best Buy on Grandview Blvd in Madison.

Responding officers learned that two male subjects had stolen several laptops and other electronic equipment valued at several thousand dollars from the store and had left the parking lot in a white BMW sedan bearing a Texas license plate.

A short time later a Madison Police officer observed a vehicle matching the description traveling southbound on Interstate 55 from Madison into the Ridgeland city limits.

As other officers in their vehicles were approaching the vehicle at the East County Line Road Interstate exit, the vehicle turned suddenly striking the driver’s side front fender of one of the police vehicles which had pulled alongside the suspect vehicle. The vehicle then fled onto the service road, made a U-turn, and then proceeded northbound onto Interstate 55.

Other officers began pursuing the suspect vehicle.

The vehicle got onto Interstate 55 and proceeded northbound with officers in pursuit. The chase continued northbound on Interstate 55 into Madison County.

As the vehicle approached mile marker 114 it swiped the side of a vehicle driving northbound causing minor damage to the vehicle without stopping. Thankfully, nobody was injured.

The suspect vehicle continued northbound on Interstate 55 and exited the interstate at the Highway 16 exit at mile-marker 124. The suspect vehicle then struck a Toyota Camry that was traveling on Highway 16. The suspect vehicle was disabled due to the crash after which two male subjects fled the vehicle on foot.

A female subject who was also in the suspect vehicle was taken into custody.

The driver of the Camry received non-life-threatening injuries as a result of the crash and was transported to a local hospital.

There were no other occupants of the Toyota Camry.

A perimeter has been established around the wooded area where the subjects fled and a search is currently being conducted by officers and deputies from the Madison Police Department, Madison County Sheriff’s Office and Canton Police Department as well as the MS Highway Patrol.

The two suspects still at large are described as African-American males, ages unknown, medium build, one wearing a bright red hoodie and bright red pants with a dark colored baseball cap and one wearing a camouflage shirt or jacket and lightcolored pants with a red baseball cap and white tennis shoes.

This case remains under investigation and further details will be released as they become available.
