One person was arrested in Pearl after drag racing with another person.

According to Pearl police, around 12:30 p.m. Sunday afternoon, Pearl officers tried to stop two drivers racing Dodge Chargers westbound on the interstate.

The driver of a black Charger pulled over and was given a ticket for reckless driving and sent on his way. The driver of the red Charger (with no license plate) 21-year-old Emmanuel Monte Harris, of Brandon drove away from police and was arrested.

Harris continued driving westbound on I-20 when officers tried to pull him over. He drove to the State Street exit in Jackson and got off the exit too fast, hitting the concrete barriers on the loop. He severely damaged his car, with at least one tire getting blown out.

Harris kept driving down State Street to the intersection of Silas Brown Street where he ran into a pole.

He jumped out of the car and started running but was quickly arrested by Pearl Police. A female in the car also jumped out and ran but was also quickly arrested.

Harris has been charged with reckless driving, no license plate, and felony fleeing. He was transported to the Rankin County Detention Center Sunday night.

Pearl police said they are thankful nobody was injured in the incident.
