NWS upgrades extreme winter weather threat for larger part of Mississippi

Severe cold is coming into the state Thursday into Friday.

The National Weather Service and the Mississippi Emergency Management Agency have issued a new weather alert for the state as extreme winter weather moves in.

The NWS has increased the risk of dangerous cold. There’s now an Extreme Threat to a larger portion of the state.

The following issues are possible with the weather coming in Thursday to Friday:
– Frostbite and hypothermia
– Damage to exposed pipes and water main breaks are expected for specific areas

Plan for your family now: food, water, and ways to stay warm in case of power outages.

Make plans to check on elderly and shut in neighbors and family, as well as having a warm, dry place for animals and plants to shelter.
