Jones County Sheriff’s Department deputies, investigators and command staff are on scene at North Jones Elementary School on Trace Road following an incident which has led to a lockdown of the school.

A male subject attempted to gain entry to the school without permission. The subject was speaking incoherently and was denied entry and subsequently left the school property on foot traveling west on Trace Road.

School administrators initiated a lockdown and called 911. The subject was taken into custody by JCSD deputies a short distance from North Jones Elementary and is being questioned at this time. He may have a mental condition which impairs his judgment and will be CIT evaluated.

There are no reported injuries and all students, staff, deputies and the suspect are okay.

Sheriff Joe Berlin commends the North Jones Elementary School staff for the execution of their lockdown plan and emergency plan. Numerous JCSD units responded to the school and scene of the capture.
