A baby was pronounced deceased at UMMC Wednesday afternoon and the mother is now being questioned by police.
According to the Jackson Police Department, at 3:30 p.m. officers responded to the 2300 block of Forest Avenue in reference to a deceased infant.
Police said that when officers arrived, they made contact with the mother of the child who told them she took her infant to UMMC Hospital because the child was unresponsive.
The child was pronounced deceased at the hospital.
Jackson police said they transported the mother to headquarters to be interviewed.
