JACKSON COUNTY – A Jackson County man has been arrested after authorities said he fled from deputies in a stolen vehicle and later burglarized several vehicles.
According to the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office, deputies attempted to stop a stolen vehicle around 10 a.m. Thursday, June 4, that had been reported out of Ocean Springs. The stop happened near the intersection of Old Fort Bayou Road and Rose Farm Road in St. Martin.
Authorities said the driver failed to stop, leading deputies on a brief pursuit that ended in a wooded area off Old Fort Bayou Road near Eglin Road, next to the Mississippi Sandhill Crane National Wildlife Refuge.
The driver, later identified as 27-year-old Andrew Dilyn Hebert, ran into the woods. Deputies and K-9 units searched the area but were unable to find him.
Investigators later obtained warrants charging Hebert with receiving stolen property and felony fleeing.
On Friday, June 5, investigators learned Hebert had allegedly burglarized several vehicles before stealing another vehicle. Around 10:30 a.m., investigators found and arrested Hebert near North 11th Street and Edgewater Street.
Deputies said they recovered the stolen truck and additional evidence related to the reported offenses.
In addition to the earlier warrants, Hebert has been charged with three counts of auto burglary and one count of motor vehicle theft.
The investigation remains ongoing. Anyone with information is asked to contact the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office at 228-769-3063 or Crime Stoppers at 877-787-5898.
