HORN LAKE – The DeSoto County District Attorney’s Office is seeking no bond for a Horn Lake man accused in a shooting earlier this week at Discount Market on Goodman Road.
District Attorney Matthew Barton announced that his office has filed a petition asking the court to deny bond for 22-year-old Taderius Young of Horn Lake following the shooting.
Young was taken into custody and charged with aggravated assault in connection with the incident. He is being held at the DeSoto County Adult Detention Center.
In addition to the aggravated assault charge, prosecutors said Young has also been charged with auto burglary in a separate case. The district attorney’s office said that charge stemmed from a case previously secured through a secret indictment in February.
According to the filing, the state argues that Young poses a special danger to the community under Article 3, Section 29 of the Mississippi Constitution and should be held without bond.
“Young has made it abundantly clear that our community isn’t safe without him in custody,” Barton said. “That is why we are asking the court to deny his bond and keep him exactly where he belongs, behind bars.”
Barton said his office plans to pursue every legal avenue available to hold violent offenders accountable.
“Let this be a message to violent criminals,” Barton said. “We don’t play here. If you bring violence into our community, we will find you, we will charge you, and, as Young is about to find out, we are going to aggressively prosecute you.”
The case was investigated by the Horn Lake Police Department.
