Ankle monitor. Source: ShutterstockBATESVILLE — The Panola County Sheriff’s Office is warning residents about a scam in which callers pose as an “ankle monitoring company” and offer to get inmates released from jail in exchange for money.
Deputies said in a Facebook post that the scheme is fraudulent and urged people not to send money.
“DO NOT send anyone any money to do anything with the PCSO or the Panola County Jail,” the post said. “That is not how it works. Ankle monitoring is ordered by the court and is not an option unless there is an order.”
The sheriff’s office advised anyone who receives such a call to contact the department.
