The Jones County Sheriff’s Department executed a search warrant and arrest warrant on Thursday, September 4, taking a registered sex offender into custody.
Authorities arrested 43-year-old Joseph Latendress at a home in the 3300 block of Augusta Road. Investigators say Latendress had registered as a sex offender in Covington County but was actually living in Jones County, a violation of state law.
Latendress is currently being held at the Jones County Adult Detention Facility on a charge of Failure To Register As A Sex Offender. Sheriff’s officials say the arrest is part of an ongoing investigation into Latendress’ activities as a sex offender, and additional charges are expected.
The Sheriff’s Department’s Criminal Investigations Division, Patrol Division, and Court Services Division all participated in the warrant service.
Latendress is scheduled to make his initial appearance in Jones County Justice Court on Friday, September 5, 2025.
