Devoncia Hammet, 25, was shot and killed early Saturday morning at her home on Country Club Drive, in Natchez.

Devonte M. Jackson, 25, turned himself in to authorities several hours later and is being held on a murder charge.

The Adams County Sheriff’s Office dispatched the Coroner’s Office around 5 a.m. Hammet’s body was found outside of the home with a gunshot wound to the chest. ACSO says a verbal argument between the two had taken place over the phone before Jackson drove to the residence. A physical altercation followed which escalated into the shooting.

Hammet was the mother of three children.
