Officials have confirmed that the body of a missing Canton child was found overnight after wandering away from his apartment.

Madison County Sheriff Randy Tucker confirmed Wednesday morning that the body of Kaleb Jamison, 4, was found overnight in a small lake near his father’s apartment complex after wandering off around noon yesterday. Tucker said the boy was found by a dive team a few feet off the bank in some floating grass.

Tucker said agencies from all over central Mississippi were on hand during the search, including agents from the FBI who were ready to begin protocols for a kidnapping if the investigation led that way.

Kaleb, who was autistic, could be seen on a doorbell camera wandering away from his home yesterday, kicking off the large-scale search. The community also united to help with the effort, Tucker said.

“That community was so nice and treated us so nice, and helped us search and prayed and supported each other — you don’t see that much anymore,” Tucker said.

Grief resources are available for the family members, Tucker said. Law Enforcement Alliance for Peer Support has also been advised of the situation and stands ready to help first responders with debriefings.

“It’s always tough, but even more so with a child,” Tucker said.
