Johnson, Union, Ovett, and Moselle volunteer fire departments responded to a structure fire at 2373 Highway 29 South yesterday evening shortly after 9:00 pm. On arrival, firefighters found a metal barn, approximately 50 feet by 80 feet, filled with large bales of burning hay.

Large hay bales are notoriously difficult to extinguish when burning. Good Samaritans assisted firefighters by utilizing two tractors, slowly removing each bale of hay from the barn.

The barn sustained significant structural damage during the incident. No injuries were reported.

Jones County Sheriff’s Office was also on scene.
