MDOT released the latest on ice on roads and bridges across the state.
As of 6 a.m. on January 19, there are 45 counties with reports of ice on roads and bridges.
Those counties include: Alcorn, Attala, Benton, Bolivar, Calhoun, Carroll, Chickasaw, Choctaw, Claiborne, Clay, Coahoma, Copiah, DeSoto, Grenada, Holmes, Humphreys, Issaquena, Itawamba, Jefferson, Lafayette, Lee, Leflore, Lowndes, Marshall, Monroe, Montgomery, Oktibbeha, Panola, Pontotoc, Prentiss, Quitman, Sharkey, Sunflower, Tallahatchie, Tate, Tippah, Tishomingo, Tunica, Union, Warren, Washington, Webster, Winston, Yalobusha, and Yazoo.
MDOT said the biggest danger is black ice that may have formed overnight in the early morning freezing temperatures.
Drivers won’t readily see black ice so if you have to be out, MDOT reminds drivers to use extreme caution on roads.
MDOT said, “We still highly advise emergency travel only in affected areas as our crews work to clear the roads.”
