The Mississippi Bureau of Investigation (MBI) is investigating an officer-involved shooting involving the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office that happened on Monday, April 29.

Deputies with the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office responded to a call for service regarding a disturbance. Upon arrival, deputies encountered the subject who presented a knife at the deputies at the scene.

The deputies then discharged their firearms striking the subject, who has been transported to a local hospital. The deputies were not seriously injured.

This information is preliminary and subject to change. MBI is currently assessing this critical incident and gathering evidence. Upon completing the investigation, agents will share their findings with the Attorney General’s Office.
