MBI Investigating Officer-Involved Shooting In Clay County

The Mississippi Bureau of Investigation (MBI) is investigating an officer-involved shooting involving the Clay County Sheriff’s Office that happened on April 26th.

A deputy with the Clay County Sheriff’s Office attempted to initiate a traffic stop on a vehicle when the driver refused to stop, leading them on a brief pursuit.

The pursuit ended on Landfield Road in West Point, Mississippi, when the driver exited the vehicle and then led the deputy in a brief foot pursuit before displaying a firearm toward the deputy.

The deputy then discharged his weapon striking the subject, who was transported to a nearby hospital. The deputy involved did not receive any serious physical injuries. This information is preliminary and subject to change.

MBI is currently assessing this critical incident and gathering evidence. Upon completing the central minvestigation, agents will share their findings with the Attorney General’s Office
