The Jones County Sheriff’s Office is investigating after a body was found in the 1600 block of Highway 184 in the Powers Community.
Deputy Coroner Burl Hall said the body is a female but the identity is not yet being released.
The body was found in the trunk of a vehicle at a used car lot where cars are refurbished and sold.
The business is called “Luis Auto Sales’ and the address is 1603 Hwy 184.
Jones County Sheriff Joe Berlin has requested the Mississippi Bureau of Investigation Crime Scene Unit to respond to help investigators.
The Sheriff’s Department said, “The family of Samantha McCowan was advised of a body being located and are obviously fearing the worst.”
This scene is currently being held as a crime scene pending the outcome of the investigation. This is an active investigation.
