Jackson police are investigating a homicide and a shooting that happened Saturday morning around 2:40 a.m.

Captain Abraham Thompson told WLBT that this was a domestic dispute that resulted in a homicide.

24-year-old Brandon Ferrell was confronting the mother of his child about another man when a fight broke out and shots were fired at Ferrell.

Captain Thompson said that when Ferrell was shot, his mom Michelle Roberts, tried to step in and intervene and she was shot in the thigh.

She ended up dying at Central Mississippi Medical Center where she died from her injury.

Ferrell is recovering from his injuries at the hospital.

Police say nobody has been arrested at this time.
