Monday evening, at 8:55 p.m., Jackson police were called to Lampton Avenue for a shooting.

Residents of Lampton Avenue said they were celebrating with a balloon release for someone who was murdered last year.

Witnesses said they saw a white vehicle backed in at a nearby home and someone inside the vehicle began firing gunshots.

According to the reporting officer, the victim was struck once in the back of his head by one of the rounds and is currently listed in critical condition at UMMC.

The suspects responsible for the shooting have not been identified. This is an ongoing investigation.
