At approximately 8:15 p.m. last night, an eastbound train struck an individual who was operating an ATV that was sitting on the tracks, just west of Kewanee Road.

Toomsuba VFD, Russell VFD, Marion VFD, Metro, Norfolk Southern Police, and Coroner Stella McMahan responded with deputies from the Lauderdale County Sheriff’s Department.

This afternoon the individual was positively identified as 41-year-old Chad Austin Carney who lived in the Toomsuba community.
