Man Injured During Officer-Involved Shooting in Jackson Dies From Injuries

On Sunday, September 25th, Capitol Police Officers were involved in an officer involved shooting after attempting to initiate a traffic stop on E. Mayes St. in Jackson.

The driver of the vehicle, 25-year-old Jaylen Lewis, has died from his injuries he received during the incident.

The officers involved are on administrative leave until such time as the internal investigation is completed and they are approved to return to active service.

Commissioner Sean Tindell stated,

“An internal investigation into this incident is underway and the Mississippi Bureau of Investigation is conducting its own independent inquiry and will present its findings to the Attorney General’s office, such incidents require a thorough investigation, scrutiny, and transparency. Therefore, any releasable information regarding this incident will be made public by the Department of Public Safety at the appropriate time.”

The Mississippi Bureau of Investigation (MBI) is investigating and currently assessing this critical incident and gathering evidence.
