According to the Columbus Police Department, a man was found lying dead in the front yard of a home on 21st Street North.
Police said the male victim was seen in the yard as the sun came up. They responded to the scene at 6:08 this morning.
Columbus Police officers attempted to offer medical aid; however, the victim was deceased upon their arrival, according to Columbus Police Chief Joseph Daughtry.
Several bullet casings were found in the area.
Lowndes County Coroner Greg Merchant will determine the cause of death and will identify the victim once next of kin are notified.
