Man Disguised As Gas Worker Robs Dollar General, Shoots Clerk In Chest

The Hinds County Sheriff’s Department is investigating an armed robbery/aggravated assault that happened Thursday night at approx. 9:00 p.m. at the Dollar General on Pocahontas Rd. in Hinds County.
According to deputies, a black male disguised as a gas worker walked into the store and told the clerk and at least one customer there was a gas leak reported and they needed to clear the store.
The suspect had a handgun and while scuffling with the clerk over the cash drawer, he shot the clerk once in the chest.
The suspect fled the scene with an unknown amount of cash.
The clerk was taken to UMMC by AMR with a single gunshot wound to the chest. He is in critical but stable condition.

Ths Hinds County Sherif’s Department said this should also serve as a public safety notice to all businesses in the metro area to take safety precautions and report any suspicious activity regarding individuals identifying themselves as gas workers or any other disguises without the proper credentials or other markings to clearly represent their affiliation with a company.
