Man Arrested for Kidnapping and Assault in Lee County

A man has been arrested following a reported kidnapping and assault that took place on August 24. According to the Lee County Sheriff’s Department, the victim reported on August 25 that she was kidnapped and threatened at gunpoint by Heath Bennett, a former boyfriend, in the Auburn area.

The victim stated that Bennett entered her vehicle, pointed a weapon at her, and demanded she drive him to a specific location, threatening to shoot her if she did not comply. Bennett eventually exited the vehicle near a store close to where the incident began, allowing the victim to drive away safely.

Following the report, a felony warrant for kidnapping and a misdemeanor warrant for domestic violence-simple assault were issued for Bennett. He was apprehended by the Itawamba County Sheriff’s Department on August 28.

40-year-old Bennett, of Tupelo, has been charged with kidnapping and domestic violence-simple assault. His bond has been set at $15,000 for the kidnapping charge and $1,000 for the domestic violence charge by a Lee County Justice Court Judge.

The Lee County Sheriff’s Department thanked the Itawamba County Sheriff’s Department for their assistance in apprehending Bennett.
