A wreck on Highway 90 in Gulfport Sunday night left seven people injured and a suspect behind bars, officials said.

Police said Beckham Earl III, 49, was charged with three counts of leaving the scene of an accident causing injuries after he fled police on foot.

Police said Earl was speeding on Highway 90 around 7:30 p.m., allegedly racing another vehicle. Earl then allegedly hit another car near Anniston Avenue. That car flipped and its passengers were trapped inside when it hit a pole.

Earl then allegedly fled on foot and was taken into custody nearby by the Biloxi Police Department.

Authorities say five people were taken to nearby hospitals, and one was flown to New Orleans. The last victim sustained minor injuries and was treated at the scene.

Earl faces a $250,000 bond.
