As Hurricane Francine approaches with the potential for heavy rain, flash flooding, strong winds, and tornadoes, it’s important to include pets in your severe weather plans.

Southern Pines Animal Shelter gave some tips for keeping animals safe during storms.

Firstly, they said to ensure your pets are brought indoors so they can stay safe and comfortable.

If that’s not possible, make sure they have access to a sturdy, weatherproof shelter.

Storms can cause anxiety in animals. You may notice changes in behavior—cats might hide, while dogs may bark, whine, or attempt to escape. To keep them safe, ensure your pets are wearing collars with ID tags, and their microchip information is up to date, and take a current photo just in case.

For extra peace of mind, consider registering your pet with Petco Love Lost to help them find their way home if they get lost during the storm: Petco Love Lost.
