Lee County Sheriff’s Department Solves 2003 Murder Thanks To Forensic Testing

A man was arrested for a murder that happened 20 years ago in Lee County.
Sheriff Johnson said that on July 14th, 2003 the Lee County Sheriff’s Department responded to a possible homicide on County Road 1792.
When officers arrived, they found a woman named Wendy Benson dead in the home with obvious signs of foul play.
The case was investigated for many years, however, eventually turned cold.
Recently, the Mississippi Bureau of Investigation met with Lee County Investigators and reopened the case because of new technology in forensic testing.
After a lengthy investigation, resulting in new evidence, charges were brought against a man named Richard Truelock for the murder of Wendy Benson.
Lee County Investigators along with MBI Investigators worked tirelessly on the case and brought forth an end to a year’s long investigation and provided closure to the family.
62-year-old Richard Truelock, from Mantchie was charged with Murder and his bond was set at $1,000,000.
