Press Release from JPS:

Daryl Jones, executive director of the JPS Athletics Department, has been appointed as president of the Mississippi Athletic Administrators Association (MAAA). The MAAA promotes professional growth in interscholastic athletics and seeks to preserve the educational nature of athletic programs in the curriculum of schools.

“It is my pleasure to represent the Jackson Public School District and the state of Mississippi as the President of MAAA,” said Jones. “One of my goals as president is to develop our state’s Athletic Administrators through ongoing relevant professional development.” Jones was afforded the opportunity to attend the National Interscholastic Athletic Administrators Association (NIAAA) conference in Nashville, TN, in December. He participated in a variety of relevant learning experiences that will assist him in his role as Executive Director of Athletics for the Jackson Public School District and as the state president of the MAAA.  He will serve a two-year term as president.

Jones has served as JPS athletic director since 2020. He previously held school administrator and successful coaching roles at Callaway and Jim Hill high schools. Coach Jones’s philosophy of school athletics is based upon the idea of developing the student-athlete as a whole person. He seeks to prepare them to serve their schools and communities through the implementation of co-curricular interscholastic athletic programs. Additionally, Jones holds a Master of Science in Educational Administration from Alcorn State University and a Bachelor of Science degree in Industrial Technology from Jackson State University.
