Jones County Sheriff looking for burglary suspect following October house fire

Jones County Sheriff’s Office is looking for Jonathan Mena, 35 year old male, of Clarke County for one count of burglary.

On October 27, 2022, Sanderville VFD responded to a residential fire 2211 Hwy 11 N. Unfortunately the residents was a total loss.

Sanderville Fire Chief John Bounds spoke to the homeowner, Dayton Scoggins, who was out of state at the time. It was learned that a side by side ATV was missing from the property. Chief Bounds immediately contacted Sgt. JD Carter with the information. The following day the side by side was located by a community member at a cemetery few miles from the residence.

During the investigation it was determined that several guns were missing from the residence.

Throughout the investigation information gathered which lead to arrest warrants being issued for Michael Scoggins and Jonathan Mena of Clarke County.

In the early morning hours of January 14, 2023 Clarke County Sheriff deputies took Michael Scoggins into custody. Scoggins was transported to Lauderdale County jail for pending charges there. Scoggins will be booked into Jones County jail once the charges in Lauderdale County is settled.

The investigation is still ongoing.
