Tree crushes Jackson home
A family has been displaced after last weekend’s storms that came through Mississippi.
A single mother and her four kids who live in a home on Myrtlewood Drive in Jackson were sleeping early Saturday morning when they were awakened by a loud boom as a tree crashed into their house.
The family and their dog were able to get out of the home safely. It continued to rain, and after a few hours, they went back to try to grab some clothes but were told that it wasn’t safe to re-enter the home because of the damage from the tree.
According to the victim’s sister, the homeowner, single mom, Kotero Nelson, is the sole provider for her four kids. Her kids are ages 16, 15, 14, and 12 years old. This was the first home she purchased and she had recently renovated and fixed the home up for her and her kids.
The family is staying in a hotel right now as they figure out how to make repairs on their home. The victim’s sister said the Red Cross could not help because this was not a natural disaster.
If you want to reach out to the family, or have clothing or supplies you wish to donate, email the mother at Kotero31nelson@gmail.com.
