Brandon police have made an arrest in a series of car thefts and car burglaries that have taken place over the last few weeks.

A release from Brandon Police Department says Laquavious Dion Swinney, 19, has been arrested after he was isolated as a suspect in the crime spree. Police say a total of six cars were stolen or burglarized, and for guns were stolen as well. All six vehicles affected were unlocked and all of the stolen cars had their keys or key fobs left in them.

A warrant was obtained for Swinney on Tuesday and officers from Pearl and Richland were able to take him into custody.

At that time, police discovered that Swinney was already out on felony bond for charges in Oxford including armed robbery, conspiracy to commit armed robbery, and house burglary/home invasion.

Swinney has been charged in Brandon with four counts of auto theft and one count of auto burglary. He is currently at Rankin County Jail with a total bond of $1.1 million for all charges. He will appear in court on August 25.

Police say more arrests and additional charges are expected in this case.
