A man accused in the death of his wife has pleaded not guilty in Hinds County Court.

Michael Owens was arrested at the end of March and charged with murder in the death of his wife, Ebony Owens. Later on, charges of Sexual Battery of a Minor and two additional charges of Sexual Assault of a minor were also added on.

Agencies including the Hinds County Sheriff’s Office and Emergency Operations Center, the Warren County Sheriff’s Office and Emergency Operations Center, the Mississippi Department of Wildlife, Fisheries, and Parks, and the Rankin County Emergency Operations Center searched the Big Black for days. It is known for being full of debris and hard to navigate, but experts trained in sonar were called in to comb the water, and a drone was put in the air.

The body of the mother of two was found in the Big Black River, downstream from where police had obtained information she had been thrown into the river. Jones said the level of the water had gone down a good bit and that helped with the search.
