According to WTVA, a high school football player was shot early Saturday morning at Pine Hill Apartments in Grenada, Mississippi.

The incident happened around 12:30 a.m. and involved a fight that escalated into gunfire.

WTVA reports the Grenada Police Department has charged Lewis Wiggins, Jr. with aggravated assault for the shooting of Chance Jenkins, an athlete at Grenada High School.

According to Grenada Police Chief George Douglas, the altercation between the two young men led to the shooting.

As of now, no bond has been set for Wiggins. The investigation is ongoing, and further details will be released as they become available.
