A Greenville firefighter is being hailed a hero after he saved a kitten’s life in a house fire.
A trailer in Greenville caught fire around 4:30 p.m. Tuesday. Engine 4, Rescue 7, Command 1, and 2 were dispatched to the scene.
There was heavy smoke showing when fire units arrived on scene. The occupant told firefighters that there were two kittens inside the home.
The firefighters quickly gained control of the fire and began searching for the kittens.
After a few minutes of searching, Lieutenant Corey Southall and Relief Lieutenant Thomas Wade discovered and rescued the kittens.
They rushed the two kittens outside and away from the smoke. Unfortunately, one of the kittens died from the smoke inhalation and the heat.
The firefighters noticed that the surviving kitten was in the early stages of respiratory failure. Senior Captain Danley quickly provided high-flow oxygen with an SCBA and performed chest compressions.
After several minutes of working, the kitten slowly gained consciousness.
Once the kitten was stable, the kitten was returned to the owner and expected to survive.
The fire department posted on Facebook saying,
“We are so proud and grateful for the men and women in our department always going above and beyond. Our family protecting your family.
