A 42-year-old Florence man died in police custody Saturday, police said.

A press release was put out by the Rankin County Sheriff’s office on Monday evening that stated that Saturday morning, Rankin County Deputies arrested Cory Alan Jackson. He was taken to the Rankin County Jail.

Later he was taken to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Rankin County Legal Counsel Paul Holley said the matter has been turned over to the Mississippi Bureau of Investigation.

Holley said no further information will be released by the Sheriff’s Department at this time, which is standard when a case has been turned over to MBI.
