At 6:34 a.m. Wednesday, Ovett and Johnson volunteer fire departments responded to a two-vehicle head-on collision at the intersection of Ovett-Petal Road and Highway 29 South in Jones County.

According to PIO, Dana Bumgardner, when fire crews arrived, they found both vehicles with major front-end damage and one driver trapped in a vehicle.

Firefighters used extrication equipment to free the driver from the mangled vehicle and subsequently airlifted from the scene to the emergency department for treatment of what appeared to be life-threatening injuries.
The other driver was treated and transported by Emserv Ambulance Service to the emergency department for what appeared to be moderate injuries.
Highway 29 South was reduced to a single lane for several hours while emergency responders provided emergency treatment, and extrication, and then cleared the area of the debris and vehicles.
MHP and Jones County Sheriff’s Office were also on scene.
