Disregard of the burn bans has now led to the deaths of 14 horses in Jackson, officials said.
WAPT’s Madeline Nolan reports that a fire was reported in a barn on Methodist Home Road and Forest Avenue Extended.
Nolan reported that authorities believe the fire was started by someone burning trash in spite of the burn ban. When the fire started to spread, it quickly went on to destroy half the barn.
Brandon Lyles, the owner of the barn told WAPT that he lost racing and riding horses.
“I’m just hurt about it I feel like we can’t come back from it, but I know we will,” he said.
The estimated loss is above $100,000.
