LAUDERDALE COUNTY – An inmate at the East Mississippi Correctional Facility died Saturday, October 5, at a local hospital following an unspecified medical issue.
According to a statement from Management and Training Corporation, which manages the facility, the inmate was transported to the hospital on Tuesday, October 1, after informing staff of breathing difficulties.
Despite efforts by hospital personnel to save his life, he was pronounced dead.
Emily Lawhead, MTC Director of Communications, stated that an autopsy is scheduled to determine the exact cause of death.
